This is the first time I hear this word :)
blue·wash·ing
blue·wash·ing (noun): The dissemination of misleading information to consumers about the environmental bona fides of certain fish.
On his New York Times blog, Schott's Vocab, Ben Schott notes this interesting new variation on greenwashing (or farmwashing, for that matter).
He cites an article in New Scientist which discusses a study that found a significant amount of mislabeling and inconsistent information about what constitutes a sustainable fishery:
"The study’s authors fear that the inconsistency and confusion could be exploited to sell products that do not meet rigorous standards. The greenwashing that some companies have employed to falsely boost their eco-credentials “could turn into ‘bluewashing’ today,” they say."
