Padma Lakshmi on Pregnant Belly Buttering

"Every morning, there's a buttering ceremony after I get out of the shower. It's really like basting a turkey with body butter."

When I was a midwife in Scotland there was a rumor the National Health Service wouldn't have enough money for prenatal care. Instead the obstetrician stamped the newly pregnant mother with a message that was too small to read. Nine months later, when her belly expanded she could look in the mirror and see the words "Your time has come. Hurry to the hospital NOW!"
