Julia Child: Culinary Revolutionary
The New School for General Studies is presenting a discussion, "Julia Child: Culinary Revolutionary," in which an expert panel will discuss Julia Child's impact on the culinary world and American pop culture, particularly in the mediums of television and cookbooks. Panelists for the evening include Judith Jones (Child's editor at Knopf), Molly O'Neill (former New York Times Magazine food columnist), Joan Reardon (author, M.F.K Fisher, Julia Child and Alice Waters: Celebrating the Pleasures of the Table), and Laura Shapiro (author, Julia Child). We Knead Your Dough
The French Culinary Institute is teaming up with Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale to present a small fundraising event, "We Knead Your Dough to End Childhood Hunger." The event will be comprised of an all-day bread making class led by several New York City artisan bread makers. Learn to make sandwich breads like focaccia, brioche, multi-grain, and rye.  The class will take place at The French Culinary Institute (462 Broadway) on Saturday, June 14th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact Peter Endriss to register. $350/person. 

Around the World in 80 Miles
Travel around the world without leaving the Hudson Valley. Ten wineries along the Shawangunk Wine Trail will open their doors and give visitors an opportunity to sample their wines paired with an international array of food. Taste foods from Greece, France, Israel, India, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, China, Chile, and Germany. The event will take place on Saturday, June 14th, and Sunday, June 15th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Tickets: $25/advance purchase, $30/at-the-door.

New York City Food Film Festival
The Second Annual New York City Food Film Festival will feature a program of food-centric films combined with tastings of the edibles featured on-screen. Some of this year's films include, "This is My Cheesesteak," "Best of the Wurst," and "The Mighty Humble Blueberry." The event will take place starting Saturday, June 14th, through Friday, June 20th, at Water Taxi Beach (2 Borden Avenue, Long Island City).  View the week's schedule for exact times and films. Admission to the event is free, and food tickets will be available on site.

Home Bar Basics
Astor Center (399 Layafette Street) will host "PDT Presents: Home Bar Basics", with John Paul Deragon and John Lee.  Learn all the fundamental techniques for creating a great home bar. The class is designed for individuals with no prior knowledge of bartending, bar equipment, or brands.  Students will receive a bar tool set to use for the duration of the class and to take home. The class will take place in The Kitchen on Sunday, June 15th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Price: $95/person.

Creme de la Creme
City Meals on Wheels is presenting a benefit, "Creme de la Creme: America’s Star Chefs Salute the Legends of French Cuisine." Guests will enjoy a meal prepared by some of America's greatest chefs (including Daniel Boulud, David Bouley, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Michel Richard, among others) as they in turn pay homage to the chefs who taught and influenced their craft. Last year's event raised over $1.2 million, the equivalent of over 200,000 meals. The event will take place at Rockefeller Center on Monday, June 16th at 7:30 p.m. Regular Admission Tickets: $600/person.

Aquavit Herring Week
Aquavit (65 East 55th Street) celebrates its annual Herring Week by offering several different selections of the Scandinavian delicacy.  The restuarant will be featuring a buffet including Pickled Herring, Curry Herring, Gentleman's Delight, Swedish Meatballs, Gravlax, and more.  Herring Week at Aquavit kicks off Monday, June 16th and commences on Friday, June 20th. Hot Dog Cookoff
The 3rd Annual Great Hotdog Cookoff invites hot dog afficianados and amazing hot dog cooks to their competition. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Food Bank for New York City. The event will take place on Saturday, July 12th, at 2:00 p.m. in an undisclosed location in Fort Greene, Brooklyn (mysterious!). Guests, volunteers, and participants will be mailed the exact location prior to the event. Chef sign-up is going on now through July 1st. Tickets are limited: $15/person.
