With a press release promoting "Tasty Flu Shots You Won’t Mind Injecting," Queens seafood restaurant London Lennies is seeking to capitalize on flu season by "administering flu shots orally" beginning next week.
Mind you, there's no actual vaccine being given. Just a chef mixing you a mouthful of oysters, gazpacho, and tequila.

Sheepish?
Matt Timms, the gastro-impresario behind various food "takedowns" (chili, fondue, bacon, etc.), is now turning his attention to lamb.
At his upcoming "Lamb Takedown," taking place on October 4th at the Highline Ballroom, contestants will prepare some 20 different lamb recipes. For $15, you can taste all of them and vote for the winner. [more details]

On Friday, August 28, the French Culinary Institute’s International Culinary Center (462 Broadway at Grand Street)

Do You Know Your Food Trivia?
"Edible Pursuit," an evening of food trivia quizzing (plus dinner and beer) will take place on August 26 at Roberta's Pizza in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The inaugural edition of this event, which originated in San Francisco, is presented by the local food magazine Edible Brooklyn. Single players and teams will be tested for their knowledge of Brooklyn's food history, pizza traditions, and pie-making. Prizes include wine and beer, cookbooks, restaurant gift certificates, and other treats. [more details]

Coming Up: New Amsterdam Market
The fledgling New Amsterdam Market has announced that it will hold a series of monthly, one-day markets beginning on Sunday, September 13, and continuing on October 25, November 22, and December 20 at the South Street Seaport.
Previous editions of the market have included local New York purveyors Saxelby Cheesemongers, Marlow and Sons, Dickson's Farmstand Meats, BoBo Poultry, and Hot Bread Kitchen.
The September market day coincides with New York City's Harbor Day celebration, honors the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage to the New World. New Amsterdam Market and its diverse vendors will join the Harbor Day festivities by representing the agricultural bounty of the lands visited by Hudson in 1609. The market will feature seasonal produce, meats and dairy, wild-gathered greens, breads, cheeses and cured meats, fruits, wine, and cider from Northeast producers, with an emphasis on Hudson Valley sources. The Art of Tea
Southern California tea connoisseurs, take note: The Fowler Museum at UCLA will present Steeped in History: The Art of Tea (August 16 to November 29), an exhibition on the history and culture of tea and its depiction in the arts in Asia, Europe, and colonial America (at right is a Japanese tea chest dating from the early 20th century).
Featured Event: Celebrating Suds
In celebration of Good Beer Month (so proclaimed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg), Edible Brooklyn will present Good Beer, an evening of beer and food pairings. Tastings include Gramercy Tavern's house beer paired with sausages;
pork dumplings from The Good Fork with Blue Point Brewery
Toasted Lager; Pennsylvania's Troegs Brewing Company Pale Ale and
Vermont's Clothbound Cabot Cheddar; Widow's Hole Oysters from Greenport
and Left Hand Brewing's Milk Stout; and Greenmarket vegetables paired with Allagash White. For dessert, taste "Dark Philosophy," a 61% chocolate ice cream beer, with cherries. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 29, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. [more details]

An offshoot of the Joy of Sake event, "Aftertaste," taking place on Wednesday, July 15, will feature a tasting of 39 different kinds of sake.
