Subway Goes Indian

At Subway's 200 outlets in India, you can choose from specialized sandwiches like the "Paneer Tikka sub," which contains slightly crispy cottage cheese slices marinated with seasonings and cooked in a traditional Indian clay oven.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I do come from Indian heritage, so it may be a little bias on my part. I'm sure many Indians are pleased to eat Indian food at Subway. I'm sure other countries also follow the same concept as India. India's population is mostly Hindus and Muslims, so it makes sense to eliminate beef and pork out of their menu. In America, we have americanized menus as well. In Subway and McDonalds the major meats are beef and chicken because that's what Americans usually eat. It is great to read that the 200th store in India is now being opened. Indians must love their subway!

 

A lot of chains are doing this now. Wherever there location is, they make food that is popular within that particular culture.One of my teachers went to Germany and brought back McDonald's menu to show us the different kind of food they provided. It was fascinating how much different their menu was compared to the one we have in the United States.

 

A common marketing strategy is to "Think Globally, Act Locally". Subway is following the model. As a global company they need to specialize in order to fit the wants of the local market. It was smart to introduce Indian style food in India. I mean it only makes sense! It could be interesting to try some of these sandwiches here! I'd like to taste the difference the clay oven makes...at least once.

 

I like that Subway changed some of their sandwiches to satisfy the Indian culture where they were located. To change the taste of the food to meet the peoples needs is such a good idea for Subway to do because it makes them a bigger chain on the map. This is a good move for the company to make sure it has its name all around the world. I would love to try some of these Indian inspired sandwiches.

 

This seems like a good marketing strategy. Subway is very good at adding new things to the menu that people will like. It is very smart to try and add in local cuisine that makes it more specialized to the specific country, especially for such a large international company such as subway.

 

This is just typical marketing strategy. Most of American food chains have restaurants all over the world, it does not shock me that subway is now putting its chain of restaurants in India. Maybe this will help create jobs in India.
