Pepsi to Debut Skinny Can Aimed at Women

Pepsi is debuting a skinny can of Diet Pepsi that, in its very skinniness, represents a "celebration of beautiful, confident women." Said the chief marketing officer of PepsiCo: "Our slim, attractive new can is the perfect complement to today's most stylish looks." Oy.

I think the overall idea for a new different style can is a good idea. I mean when isn't it a good idea to change the way somethings looks after a long time. I do not like, however, how they are advertising it to be a tall skinny can made to look like the ideal women today. I don't like when people in the fashion industry try to make all the girls in the world believe that being tall and bone skinny is the only way you will look pretty. Other then the advertising of this new skinny can I think it will do well and people will buy it simply because it is something new.

This is just another marketing ploy that Pepsi is using so we can buy there products. This isn't any different when they released Pepsi blue or when they changed cans multiple times. Another problem i have with this is that they are advertising beauty as tall and skinny. Pretty people come in all different forms and this marketing ploy is just another way to make people feel insecure about themselves.

The idea that they are making a can to look like a skinny woman is appalling. America is too focused on the idea that women have to look a certain way. This is just another way for pepsi to try and make a little more money then they already have! I can see them making a smaller can for those who are trying to watch their intake, but aiming at the "ideal" woman is not right and i'm sure they will get a lot of negative feed back for it. I understand that there is a huge problem with obesity today in age, but the media's idea of "perfect" is corrupt and that alone taints the average young female today. The sad part, i'm sure their promotion will work as they expect and bring them the money they desire because of the lack of self esteem in women today caused by exploitations such as this.

I do not think that this was a very good idea for Pepsi for many reasons. They are just adding to the influence on people that they have to be skinny to be beautiful. Also, I do not think that a company that sells unhealthy products should have any sort of advertisement for people to believe that it is ok to drink Pepsi.

I think the can is a good idea. Whether we like it or not, slim and attractive is the current style of the world. Pepsi is just using surrounding culture as a new marketing campaign. It could potentially work or could potentially fail. This idea is not completely unrelated to the mini-can products that are already on shelves today.
The fact that the can is aimed at women shouldn't cause as much controversy as it is. The Pepsi is already diet, promoting a more healthier choice for calorie and carb intake.
Another thing to think about is that when soda pop first came out, it was in glass bottles. Tall, skinny ones. Maybe Pepsi is just playing on the original bottle concept.

This is a good marketing idea, just like when Coke did the campaign about women with a Coke bottle shape. It worked for them so this may also work for pepsi. Women seem to pay more attention to these types of advertisements so Pepsi should be able to make a few extra bucks!
