European Union Reveals New Organic Logo
The European Commission has revealed a new organic logo that will be used on all pre-packaged organic products that are produced in member states that meet EU organic standards. The design is comprised of twelve stars (as appear in the European flag) arrayed in the shape of a leaf against a green background.
"I'm delighted that we now have a fresh EU organic food logo," said Mariann Fischer Boel, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, who first proposed the competition to select the logo. "This exercise has raised the profile of organic food and we now have a logo which everyone will be able to identify with. It's a nice elegant design and I look forward to buying products carrying this logo from July this year."
The new logo was the result of a European-wide contest open to art and design students in which nearly 3,500 logo designs were submitted.
The winning so-called "Euro-leaf" logo is by Dusan Milenkovic, a student from Germany, who earned 63 percent of the vote after some 130,000 people voted online for one of three finalists.

What an innovative way to show the government's support for healthy living and protecting the environment to go Green. It's kind of like European National Pride. Now if only the proceeds could be used for research to go Green, finding alternative oil solutions, and curbing emissions by manufacturers. Now if only this concept could be spread world wide, less talk and more action!
