Jamie Oliver Tapped for TED Prize

Jamie_winner Jamie Oliver, the multitasking celebrity chef, author, TV personality, matchmaker, and potential defendant in a lawsuit by the Village People, has been named the winner of this year's TED Prize, an award granted annually to visionaries who "will be doing something that has extraordinary potential, something whose positive influence could spread, transcending borders, something that can contribute to the future of life on Earth."

According to the TED website:

The prize grants him $100,000 — and something much bigger: “one wish to change the world.” He’ll unveil the wish on February 10 at TED2010, and we, the TED community, will seek to make it come true.

In years past, TED has given the award to three individuals. This time, Oliver is the sole winner.

In naming Oliver for the prestigious prize, TED credited him for his work on nutrition and obesity:

With the obesity epidemic growing globally, Oliver is using his notoriety to bring attention to the changes Englanders and now Americans need to make in their lifestyles and diet. Campaigns such as School Dinners, Ministry of Food and Food Revolution USA combine Oliver’s culinary tools, cookbooks and television with more standard activism and community organizing to create change on both the individual and governmental level.

Well done Jamie Oliver. You are one of my idols. The TED prize is well deserved for your tireless work trying to change the unhealthy diets of many folks in the UK as well as in the US.
When will the Queen bestow an MBE upon you?
