food rac·ism
food rac·ism (noun): An expression of racial prejudice that uses a stereotypical food item to make an insulting or disparaging remark or innuendo.
In an opinion column published on CNN's website, Ruben Navarrette Jr. noted the use of the term food racism on a conservative radio program in regards to a controversial statement (see video below) made by an ESPN broadcaster about Colombian NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya:
"[T]he radio host was talking about the latest tempest -- a taco in a teapot. One of the most recent skirmishes in the culture wars is about a Latino race car driver and a TV broadcaster who spun out and hit the wall after telling a lame joke that some are calling racist.
ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended for one week for a stereotypical crack he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya. During a recent ESPN broadcast, a graphic appeared listing the top drivers in a NASCAR competition. When fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, Griese replied he was 'out having a taco.'"
Griese has since apologized for the remark as "inappropriate." Montoya had the following response: "Somebody mentioned it to me. I don't really care to tell you the truth. Yeah, I don't. I could say that I spent the last three hours eating tacos, but I was actually driving a car."

Navarrette is quick to play the prejudice/racism card. Tacos have no relationship to the people of Colombia and therefore, no relationship to JP Montoya. The cuisine of Colombia is not related to the cuisine of Mexico. The statement of Bob Griese was as harmless as saying Jeff Gordon was out having " Bagel and lox". For those who do not know, Jeff Gordon is a Southerner and Bagels and lox are associated with N.Y. city denizens. So, Navarette, what's your hyper incorrect political correctness point??

The fact that he's too ignorant of Columbian food to accurately say something stupid about Montoya doesn't lessen the fact that he insulted the driver who was different. He would never say one of the Southern drivers was too preoccupied with thinking about intimate relations with a close relative to avoid a crash. And it's not about political correctness. It's about manners. Conservatives always fall back on the PC excuse when they're the first to complain about bias and elitism.

What a bad joke for a professional announcer he is. Very discriminating it is.
