Ruth Reichl Starring in New Culinary Travel Show

Reichl

If you've been following Ruth Reichl's Twitter stream, you may have noticed she's been on the move as of late: you know, baking bread in Marrakech, feasting on crabs and caipirinhas on the beach in Brazil, and sampling ant eggs in Laos. I figured the life of the Gourmet editor-in-chief must be good, but is it always this good?

Well, here's an explanation for Reichl's recent gastronomic globetrotting: She is starring in a new PBS television series, "Adventures With Ruth," that is slated to air this October. The 10-episode series (produced by WGBH in Boston) follows Reichl to cooking schools and culinary destinations around the world, with celebrities in tow.

According to Mediaweek, the program is sponsored with a $2 million advertising buy from American Airlines that includes branding spots on each episode, ads in Gourmet, a presence on the show's Web site, and sponsorship of the Gourmet Institute. The series also will air on Gourmet’s TiVo channel (who knew?) and on American Airline’s in-flight video channel.

Ruth,
If you're staying in states at all, please consider coming to Kansas City. We've got some of the most amazing chefs that no one knows about (James Beard Nominees), not to mention amazing food - NOT just BBQ.
Cheers!

Who said the economic crisis has hurt global culinary tourism? When the travel industry (that would be AA) puts its money on food, rather than culture/leisure/sports, I get the warm glow that food lovers care enough to put there money where their mouth is.

I'm very excited for this show. Thanks for sharing!

Maggie

Fabulous... isn't it time the Food Network either went back to its glory days when it first became a network where programmming was important or rename themselves the Food Idiot's Network...Thank goodness we always have PBS to teach us all about food throughout the world and in our own backyard in intellectual terms

Perhaps there's an all-seafood version out there.
