Agenda: Food Fest, Women and Food, and Cup Flipping

NYC Wine and Food Festival
In response to the success of the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival, Food and Wine magazine presents the first annual New York version of the event, the proceeds of which will benefit Food Bank for New York City and Share Our Strength.
The majority of events will take place in the Meatpacking District, but
the festival will spread throughout the city. The event includes tastings, seminars, and panel discussions, including a match-up between Alice Waters, Rachael Ray, and Jessica Seinfeld (above) to discuss kids and healthy eating. The festival will feature
some of the world's best known food personalities, including Giada De
Laurentiis, Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Anthony Bourdain,
and many more. The events kick off on Thursday,
October 9th, and continue through Sunday, October 12th. For a full list of activities

Food Reading
This month's Facts & Fictions at The Montauk Club will feature teacher and best-selling cookbook author Marcella Hazan along with her co-writer from her latest book, Amarcorde: Marcella Remembers, Victor Hazan. The reading will take place at The Montauk Club (25 8th Avenue, Brooklyn) on Friday, October 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets through Brown Paper Tickets: $10/person. Gowanus Harvest Fest
The Yard in Brooklyn (388-400 Carroll Street) is hosting its annual Gowanus Harvest Festival. Attendees can enjoy the bounty of sustainable city living, including farm fresh food, live music, local favorites, pumpkin carving contests, children's activities, local beer and more. The festival will take place on Saturday, October 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets: $12/person, Free/children 5 and under.
Flip Cup Tournament
If you're looking for something a bit more tongue-in-cheek to do this weekend, then check out the Flip Cup Guys as they bring the World's Largest Flip Cup Tournament to New York City. Whether you want to gather and register a team of six, or are simply content being a spectactor, it is sure to be an unforgettable event. The tournament will take place at M1-5 Bar (52 Walker Street) on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. Tickets: $30/player, $25/spectators.
Italian Women, Restaurants, and Cuisine
The 92nd Street Y (Lexington Avenue at 92nd Street) presents Lidia Bastianich and Donatella Arpaia: Mangia! Italian Women, Restaurants and Cuisine, moderated by Francine Segan. During the lecture the women will give you a sneak peek into life at their restaurants, as well as discuss the latest in Italian food trends. The event will take place in Buttenwieser Hall on Sunday, October 12th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $27/person.
COMING UP
Swindled
Culinary Historians of New York and Astor Center present, "Swindled: The Dark History of Food Fraud From Poisoned Candy to Counterfeit Coffee." Discover the ways that foods have been manipulated for over the course of centuries all over the world for the sake of profit, and often at the expense of one's life. The discussion will be lead by Bee Wilson, author of The Hive: The Story of the Honeybee and Us.
