Agenda: Pig Festival, MFK Fisher, and the New York Culinary Experience



Sagre del Maiale
Il Buco (47 Bond Street) presents its 5th annual "Sagra del Maiale", an outdoor pig and apple festival commemorating the Autumn Equinox. Feast on a 2,000 pound Ossabaw pig, pork, apple and peperoncino sausages, panzanella, wild arrugula, apple-ricotta fritters, and more. Harvest in the Square
Sample cuisine from Union Square restaurants while lending your support to the neighborhood at the 13th annual Harvest in the Square. The food and wine tasting event will feature produce from the Square's own greenmarket, local microbrews, NYS wines and more. The event will take place at Union Square Park (enter from South Plaza on 14th Street) on Thursday, September 18th from 7:30 p.m. (6:00 p.m. for VIPs) to 9:00 p.m. Tickets: $115/advanced general admission, $125/at the door, $400/VIP. New York Culinary Experience
New York magazine presents "New York Culinary Experience" at the French Culinary Institute (426 Broadway). Enjoy a weekend of hands-on master classes, tastings, discussions, and more with some of the city’s most celebrated and coveted chefs. The ticket price will include admission for two days, all classes, breakfast, lunch, and a Champagne toast, but note that tickets are limited. The event will take place starting Saturday, September 20th, at 8:30 a.m. through Sunday, September 21st, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets: $1,395/person.

Oyster Frenzy
Grand Central Oyster Bar and Restaurant (42nd Street at Park Avenue) presents its annual "Oyster Frenzy." Observe chef demonstrations, the "Slurp Off" eating contest, shucking competitions, and more. Admission is free, but there will be a charge for oysters, which range from $1.75 to $3.50 a piece. Day A-Whey
Saxelby Cheesemongers latest Day-A-Whey excursion travels to the North Fork of Long Island. Visit Catapano Dairy Farm in Peconic, NY, enjoy a wine tasting and picnic at Corey Creek Vineyards and pick up some fresh produce at a local farm stand on the way home. The event will take place on Sunday, September 21st, with the bus departing from Saxelby Cheesemongers (120 Essex Street) at 8:30 a.m. sharp. MFK Fisher
The Food Studies program at The New School is presenting a discussion, "MFK Fisher: Poet of the Appetites." Celebrate the centennial of MFK Fisher's birth with a reflection of her relationships with other food celebrities. Panelists include Amanda Hesser, editor, New York Times; culinary authors Judith Jones, Joan Reardon; and Kennedy Golden, the daughter of M.F.K. Fisher. Andrew F. Smith, editor of the Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink, moderates.
