Agenda: Maple Syrup, Truffles, and Biodynamic Wine

Marvelous Maples
Wave Hill will present a demonstration on cooking with maple syrup, a tasting of maple-infused sweets, and a discussion of how maple syrup is made. Horticultural Interpreter Laurel Rimmer will also lead a walk to one of Wave Hill's venerable old sugar maple trees. The event will take place on Saturday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wave Hill House, West 249th Street and Independence Avenue. Free with admission ($6/person; free before noon).

EVENTS THIS WEEK (February 13 through February 20)

All You Can Drink
Celebrate Valentine's Day with an evening of all-you-can-drink hot chocolate (yes, that's right) at City Bakery (3 West 18th Street). The evening, which comes at the midpoint of City Bakery's annual month-long hot chocolate festival, will also feature food and drink from Saxelby Cheesemongers, Rick's Picks, Chocolat Moderne, Bottlerocket Wine & Spirits, and Tuthilltown Distillery. The event will take place on Thursday, Feburary 14, 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. $45/person (purchase tickets online).

Blanc de Blancs
Chelsea Wine Vault (75 Ninth Avenue, inside Chelsea Market) will present a discussion and  tasting of Blanc de Blancs champagnes, which are made solely from Chardonnay grapes. The event will take place on Friday, February 15, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. $100/person (212.462.4244).

Women in Cheesemaking
Murray's Cheese (254 Bleecker Street) will present a discussion of the contribution of women to artisanal cheesemaking, as well as a tasting of cheeses made by leading female cheese-makers, on Friday, February 15, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. $50/person.

Biodynamic Wine Dinner
Cercle Rouge (241 West Broadway) will offer a four-course menu paired with biodynamic wines from Chateau Tour Grise in France's Loire Valley. The winemakers will be on hand to discuss their wines and biodynamic practices. The dinner will take place on Monday, February 18, at 7:15 p.m. $65/person (212.625.2999).

Truffles and Travel
Doug Duda, A&E’s "Well-Seasoned Traveler," and travel writer Pauline Frommer will discuss tips for winter and spring culinary travels as guests are treated to a winter truffle tasting menu. The discussion and dinner will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Astor Center (399 Lafayette Street). $95/person.
