The Elements of Saké
Astor Center will present a course on the basics of saké, from saké production to classification and flavor. The event, which includes a tasting of several saké varieties, will take place on Tuesday, January 15, 6:30 p.m., at 23 East 4th Street, 2nd Floor. $95/person.

Moralists in the Kitchen
The Culinary Historians of New York will host a lecture by scholar Rachel Laudan on the morality of refined cooking. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 9, at Astor Center, 23 East 4th Street, 2nd Floor. $25/person.

Food Tube
Francine Segan, food historian and author of Movie Menus, will discuss great moments in food on television on Tuesday, January 15, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the 92nd Street Y. The event will include a viewing of excerpts from notable sit-coms, commercials, and cooking shows, a tasting, and a discussion how food is prepared for TV and how actors cope with eating while shooting multiple takes. $35/person.
