Oysters, Chocolate, Beer, and Jewish Gastronomy


Oyster Dinner
Savoy restaurant (70 Prince Street) will kick off its spring dinner series on Monday, February 11, with an oyster tasting featuring Jon Rowley, oyster expert from the Pacific Northwest. The tasting of east and west coast oysters paired with wines will be followed by a three-course dinner. $95/person plus tax and tip (212.219.8570).


Writing About Cooking
Cookbook editor Judith Jones, author of The Tenth Muse: My Life in Food, and writer Alex Prud’homme, Julia Child’s grandnephew and co-author of her memoir, My Life in France, will discuss their books and their lives with the cooking legend. The event takes place on Wednesday, February 6, 7:30 p.m., at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway). $21/person.

Chocolate and Beer
Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver and chocolatier Fritz Knipschildt, owner of Cafe Chocopologie in Norwalk, Connecticut, will pair chocolate and beer at a tasting at Whole Foods Market Bowery Culinary Center (95 East Houston Street) on Friday, February 1, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. $40/person (866.462.2838).

Chocolate and Wine
Bottlerocket Wine & Spirit (5 West 19th Street) will feature a free tasting of chocolates paired with wine and spirits on Saturday, February 2, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Jewish Eating and Identity
Dr. David Kraemer, the author of Jewish Eating and Identity Through the Ages, will discuss the history of Jewish eating practices and gastronomy and he meaning of food for Jewish identity at The Jewish Theological Seminary (3080 Broadway) on Monday, February 4, 7:30 p.m. Free admission, reservation required (212.280.6093).
