Jerrythomas Liquid Legacy
Cocktail authority David Wondrich, author of Imbibe!, a history of the legendary bartender Jerry Thomas, will share recipes for the classic nineteenth century cocktails which became the basis for modern mixology. The class will take place on Friday, January 18, 6:30 p.m., at Astor Center, 23 East 4th Street, 2nd Floor. $75/person.

Water and Sustainable Farming
In connection with the American Museum of Natural History's "Water: H20 = Life" exhibit, this discussion with Fred Kirschenmann, organic farmer and distinguished fellow, the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Iowa State University, and Peter Hoffman, owner and chef of Savoy, will look at the relationship between large-scale farming and water consumption. The event takes place on Wednesday, January 16, 6:30 p.m., at the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th Street. Tastings will be included. $45/person.

Jazz and Wine
In collaboration with the Jazz Gallery, Chanterelle’s "Sunday Salon" series will feature live jazz performances along with wines "hand-selected to match the mood" by sommelier Roger Dagorn. The event will take place on Sunday, January 20, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Chanterelle, 2 Harrison Street $65/persion, reservations required (212.966.6960).

Winter Restaurant Week
Participating New York City restaurants will offer three-course prix-fixe dinners for $35 and lunches for $24.07. The promotion kicks off on Monday, January 21, and continues through Friday, January 25, and January 28 through February 1. Online reservations are available at opentable.com.

Hands-on Mozzarella
Learn to make mozzarella and taste mozzarellas from the U.S. and Italy, paired with wine. The class will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Artisanal Premium Cheese Center, 500 West 37th Street. $95/person.
