Ladies' Night
Jimmy's No. 43 (43 East 7th Street) will host a "Craft Beer Appreciation Class for Women" on Monday, January 28, at 7:00 p.m. Mary Izett, homebrewer and former president of the Malted Barley Appreciation Society of New York City, will lead a discussion on the basics of how beer is brewed, types and styles of beer, how to taste and evaluate beer, and proper methods of storing and serving beer. The evening includes a tasting of five different beers. $30/person (reservations should be made to mary@nycdat.com).

Winter Restaurant Week
Participating New York City restaurants are offering three-course prix-fixe dinners for $35 and lunches for $24.07. The promotion continues thgrough Friday, January 25, and January 28 through February 1. Online reservations are available at opentable.com.

Craft Beer and Artisanal Cheese
The Artisanal Premium Cheese Center (500 West 37th Street, 2nd Floor) will present a tasting of cheeses paired with craft beers from Oregon's Rogue Ales on Wednesday, January 23, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. $75/person (877.797.1200).

Elements of Flavor
Astor Center (23 East 4th Street, 2nd Floor) will launch a five-part course on the five basic elements of taste (salt, sugar, sour, bitter, and umami), including an examination of the physiological processes that control taste and how to train your palate to taste flavor elements. The first of  the five classes (on salt) will take place on Saturday, January 26, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. $95/person.
