Apple Just because McIntosh apples are in season right now, it doesn't mean they're the best choice to fill a pie, suggests the Boston Globe. The Globe recommends varieties such as Rhode Island Greening, Northern Spy, and Cortland apples among others that won't turn watery and pulpy when baked.
